Days 13-17

June 13th: Today I watched the video, Secrets of London, Secrets of the London Underground on Amazon Prime. I also listened to the podcasts, Rick Steves’ Britain (Beyond London), Jane Austin’s England and The English Countryside. I continue to read my guidebooks any chance I get and have learned all kinds of fun facts for our trip, including British vocabulary! If you want to survive in a foreign country, you better know how to order food! Here’s some important vocabulary for my fellow food loving friends. (banger: sausage, bangers and mash: sausage and mashed potatoes, biscuit: cookie, black pudding: sausage made from dried blood, chips: French fries, crisps: potato chips, fairy cake: cupcake, jelly: Jell-O and rasher: slice of bacon)

June 14th: Today I watched the video, Secrets of London, Secrets of Westminster and Secrets of Her Majesty’s Secret Service on Amazon Prime. I also listened to the podcast, Rick Steves’ Britain (Beyond London), Walking Across England. I received a recommendation a couple weeks ago that I want to share with all of you. If you like searching for cheap travel deals, check out the book, Takeoff: How To Travel The World For Next To Nothing by Bryce Conway. (http://getfreeflights.com/tools-used-by-pros-tripcase/)

June 15th: Today I watched the video, Samantha Brown’s Passport to Europe, Classic London and listened to the podcast, Rick Steves’ Britain Audio Tours, British Museum. This particular podcast is an audioguide for a visit to the British Museum. I like to listen to these audioguides in advance because they remind me of the “must see” items of that visit. I find I could listen to the comical commentary again and again.

June 16th: Today I watched the video, Samantha Brown’s Passport to Europe, London Now and Samantha Brown in London (Shopping). I also listened to the podcast, Rick Steves’ Britain Audio Tours, Westminster Walk. While doing laundry this week, I’ve started setting things aside in our guest bedroom that I want to pack for the trip. The stress of realizing you forgot to purchase something or wash your favorite shirt right as you are leaving for a big trip is not worth it. I know you all think I’m nuts for packing weeks in advance but trust me, the peace of mind is worth it! 😉

June 17th: Today I watched the video, Samantha Brown’s Passport to Europe, English Countryside and London Underground with Samantha Brown. I also listened to the podcast, Rick Steves’ Britain Audio Tours, British Library. Several months ago, Joe booked an extra night’s stay before and after our Rick Steves’ tour and today he confirmed those reservations and also asked the hotel if we can stay in the same room for the duration of our stay.
