Juicing, Days 27-30

September 27th: Most Americans don’t consume the daily recommended amount of fresh fruits and vegetables. However, juicing helps individuals meet the daily recommendation in one drink. This morning I made a juice called the “Apple Basic.” The flavor was a perfect mix of savory and sweet and it was nice and creamy.

September 28th: Our bodies are always naturally detoxing and eating, blending, or juicing broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, radish and brussels sprouts is a great way to help promote a healthy body. The American Cancer Society suggests having at least one serving a day of this plant-based family. This morning I made a juice called “Green ‘n’ Pear It.” I absolutely love pears and the combination of veggies made for a fantastic flavor, even for someone doesn’t care much for broccoli.

September 29th: Ginger helps relax the intestinal tract and provides additional digestive power. This morning I made a juice called “Pink Punch,” but it was a little on the bitter side. I used raspberries instead of cranberries to avoid just that. I would probably try this juice again with honey crisp apples instead of green.

Pink Punch

1 handful cranberries or raspberries

3 springs fresh mint

September 30th: Another common myth about juicing is that eating fruits and vegetables is better than juicing them. The reality is we will be healthier if our diet consists of plant-based foods. The most important take away here is we must consume plants whether its including them in a smoothie, a juice, a salad, a soup or a bowl of roasted veggies. If we consume a variety of fruits and vegetables we are consuming a fuller variety of nutrients. This morning I made a juice called “Apple Zing,” which is a slight variation of the juice I made on Sunday, the “Apple Basic.” The ginger adds a nice bite to a really standard juice flavor. I’ll be putting my juicer away for a while to focus my energy in October on building a website! Stay tuned!
