Serving Others, Days 8-14

Sunday, November 8th: This morning the Michelle Tuesday Music School’s flute choir played at our church for our Sunday morning service. They have done this in the past, and the congregation absolutely loves hearing them again and again.

Monday, November 9th: Today I donated gloves, scarves, and hats to the Good Neighbors of Central Ohio (Neighbors Engaged in Giving the Homeless Better Opportunities, Respect and Strength). This organization provides opportunities for groups and individuals who represent each aspect of our community to work side by side demonstrating that we need good neighbors to our often forgotten community members: the homeless. The Good Neighbors are hosting a picnic for the homeless community of Columbus to provide a day of fun, food, and entertainment for their guests. In addition to an entertaining day, homeless families are provided wth much needed clothing, personal care items, as well as shoes, toys, blankets, and travel bags in preparation for winter.

Tuesday, November 10th: Today I made a donation to GRIN (Gahanna Residents In Need), a community wide, faith based organization committed to helping the residents of the Gahanna-Jefferson school district in a time of need. GRIN offers a variety of services, such as a food pantry, clothing, rent/utility assistance, summer lunch club, school supply drive, holiday assistance, as well as other services. Wednesday, November 11th: This morning I made baked goods for my students at Ohio Dominican University, but then my students cancelled their lessons. I guess I’ll try again next week! Joe and I also made our monthly contribution to NPR today.

Thursday, November 12th: Today I made a donation to the Malala Fund, a foundation started by Pakistani activist for female education and youngest Nobel Prize laureate, Malala Yousafzai. The Malala Fund enables girls to complete 12 years of safe, quality education so that they can achieve their potential and be positive change-makers in their families and communities. The fund works with partners all over the world helping to empower girls and amplify their voices; they invest in local education leaders and programs; they advocate for more resources for education and safe schools for every child.

Friday, November 13th: This evening we invited the Roeth family over for dinner. They have us over to their house all the time so it was nice to treat them to dinner at our place. Joe even gave Audrey and Violet a cello lesson! 😉

Saturday, November 14th: This afternoon I’ll play for a wedding with Kana and Joe at the Columbus Museum of Art for one of Kana’s friends. I also made gift bags for the homeless that I plan to keep in my car to hand out. Each bag consists of items such as soap, shampoo, conditioner, etc.
